A court has been informed that a man shouted a racial slur during a hit-and-run incident in Bristol, leaving the victim seriously injured.
During a recent court hearing, the victim, Katungua Tjitendero, recounted the traumatic events of July 22, 2020, when he was struck by a vehicle near Southmead Hospital. He reported that one of the assailants yelled a racial slur before fleeing the scene.
The defendants, Phillip Adams, Patrick James, Jordan McCarthy, and Daniel Whereatt, all from Bristol, have denied charges relating to the incident. Tjitendero described his injuries, including a fractured fibula and lacerations, and confirmed that he had no prior disputes with anyone involved.
Witnesses provided additional details, with Alison Adams noting the vehicle's erratic behavior before the collision. Prosecutor Anjali Gohil argued that the defendants were allegedly hunting for Tjitendero in a blue Honda Accord.
The trial also revealed a separate incident involving another victim, Julian Ford, who was injured in a similar manner. His injuries were severe, leading to significant medical intervention. The court proceedings are ongoing.
